J. V. Jones Obituary

J. V. "Jimmy" Jones, 99, of Scottsville, KY passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024 at The Fountains at Crystal Lakes in Crystal Lakes, IL.  Jimmy was born in Hampshire, TN to the late Lacy G. Jones and Nellie Jones.  He was a retired corporate accountant in Colorado, Illinois and Kentucky, a WWII U. S. Army veteran, member of Halfrey Dalton VFW Post 5712, First United Methodist Church and a Kentucky Colonel. 

He was a member of Scottsville Chapter #60 O.E.S and member and Past Master of Graham Lodge #208 F & AM and Halfway Lodge #852 F & AM.  Jimmy was a 75 year Freemason and, also, a member of Marlin White Lodge of Research, Scottsville Chapter #171 Royal Arch Masons and Past High Priest, Russellville Chapter #8 Royal Arch Masons, Graham Chapter #80 Royal Arch Masons, Bowling Green Chapter #38 Royal Arch Masons, Scottsville Council #105 Royal & Select Masters and Past Illustrious Master, Russellville Council #102 Royal & Select Masters, E. K. Lamb Council #103 Royal & Select Masters, Bowling Green Council #74 Royal & Select Masters, Past Illustrious Grand Master of Kentucky Royal & Select Masters (2011), Past Representative to the Grand Council of Oklahoma, Kentucky Cryptic Mason Award (2009), Kentucky Council of Ish Sodi, Order of the Secret Vault, Order of the Silver Trowell, Knight York Cross of Honor, Allied Masonic Degrees, Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests, Knight Masons, Franklin Commandery #44 Order of Knights Templar Past Commander, Bowling Green Commandery No. 23 Order of Knights Templar, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Madisonville 32nd Degree KCCH and Society of Past Masters of Southern Kentucky. 

In addition to his masonry, scouting was a large part of of his life.  After coming back from the war, he and Eugenia moved to Colorado where he was a Scoutmaster and, also,  in Illinois for many decades.  He held committee positions at both the district and council level.  He was a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow and attended Woodbadge training and received the Silver Beaver award...an award for distinguished contributions at the council level.  He met some of his best friends through Scouting, including one of his best lifelong friends, Bill "Bookie" Boekholder.

 

He is survived by one son:  Steven Jones, Mountain Home, AR; 

One daughter:  Lynn Olsen and husband, Keith, McHenry, IL; 

Six grandchildren:  Geoff Olsen (Jaclyn), Jamie Chaves (Francisco), Laura Halstead (Andy), Jennifer Olsen-Padilla (Luis), Harry Jones and Ben Jones; 

Seven great grandchildren:  Ella & Brody Olsen; Kaylin, Mateo & Lucas Chaves; Silvia Padillo and Hayes Halstead; 

One niece:  Marilyn Garmon and husband, Barry, Scottsville, KY; 

One nephew:  John Jones and wife, Bobbie, Naples, FL. 

He was preceded in death by his wife: Eugenia Gregory Jones and a brother:  Morris Jones. 

 

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Goad Funeral Home with Pastor Ashley Tackett-Evans officiating and burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery with military honors by Glasgow DAV Chapter 20.  Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and after 7:00 a.m. Friday until funeral time at Goad Funeral Home. Graham Lodge will hold masonic rites at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Goad Funeral Home.  All master masons wishing to participate can be at the lodge at 6:30 p.m.
